Funding of £1.6m has been secured to help businesses in the North East utilise renewable energy technology. The cash, from the European Union's regional development fund and Newcastle University, will be used to demonstrate how to boost output and reduce costs. New equipment will be installed at the university's Sir Joseph Swan Institute for Energy Research and Blyth's New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC). The university will organise forums to explain the benefits of new technology. Projects being developed in the region include wind, solar, biomass and wave energy systems. | |
