British children are among the worst in Europe for taking energy saving measures around the home, a new survey has revealed.
The study from the Energy Saving Trust, which spoke to 6,000 children and adults across the continent, found that almost half (44 per cent) of kids in the UK admit to leaving lights on when they leave a room.
Four in ten (40 per cent) said that they use the most electrical gadgets of any member of their family.
Energy and climate change minister Joan Ruddock said that as climate change is a part of the national curriculum, British children will get better at realising how important it is to use energy saving measures.
She added: "Considering around 40 per cent of carbon pollution is a result of personal choices, there is huge potential for everyone to start bucking the trend."
Ahead of Energy Saving Week, which runs until October 25th, the trust also recently announced that the 82 per cent of UK consumers do not understand their fuel bills or how to save money on them.
