Tully (WSYR-TV) – Skiers who visited Song Mountain Wednesday may have noticed some long lines at the lifts for about an hour, because the ski resort was loading every third chair in an effort to reduce energy consumption.
They are conserving energy due to a request from the New York system operator, also know as the NYISO. The NYISO oversees New York State’s electric grid, and every so often, they will call and ask a business to cut back on its energy consumption. They say these electrical audits are important in making sure that in the event of an emergency, power could be reduced and saved.
The reduction at Song Mountain only lasted an hour, and management tells us it went smoothly, and that the lift line was never longer than five minutes. Song's been enrolled in the program for a year, and this is the first time they had to test their energy conservation method. It will be some time before the NYISO calls them up again.
