"Peak Oil" and "Nuke Option" Oil Banker Matthew Simmons Found Dead 09-08-2010 5:11 pm

Prominent energy investment banker Matthew Simmons was found dead at his North Haven, Maine home Sunday night. Simmons drowned at his home after an apparent heart attack.

Simmons is the author of 'Twilight in the Desert' and was made famous for his call for "peak oil." He founded investment bank Simmons & Company in 1974, founded the Ocean Energy Institute, and was a former energy advisor to President George W. Bush.

More recently, Simmons made some very controversial calls related to the BP (NYSE: BP) Gulf Oil spill. Simmons was pushing for a "nuclear option' to cap the well. He also claimed BP completely destroyed the Gulf of Mexico and the company would become bankrupt from the disaster. Both of these proved more fear mongering than accurate.
